NTC thermistor, which plays the role of temperature control and temperature monitoring in SiC MOSFET, has also shown exponential growth.

Compared with traditional Si device, SiC MOSFET has the characteristics of small size, strong heat dissipation performance, excellent switching performance, etc., which can better reduce the device capacitance and gate charge, improve efficiency density and power density, improve electro-magnetic interference (EMI), thus reducing the switching loss required for high-frequency operation during electric vehicle charging. With the continuous development of the industry, the higher the requirements for SiC silicon carbide modules, the power level needs to exceed 350kW, and the efficiency needs to be as high as 95% has become a normal requirement. At the same time, with the development of SiC MOSFET to miniaturization, high temperature resistance and high reliability, SMD type NTC thermistor with small size, high temperature resistance and high reliability can be well matched in the SiC MOSFET, and compared with the silicon carbide chip, SMD type NTC thermistor has better technological adaptability.

On the other hand, given the different deployment locations and environments of electric vehicle chargers, the reliability, compactness, and robustness of SiC MOSFET are also challenges for R&D and design teams. In order to prevent electric vehicle drivers from having “range anxiety” and provide them with a network of fast charging stations, major manufacturers have joined the R&D team of SiC MOSFET, aiming to launch a better electric vehicle charging infrastructure to meet the charging needs of drivers and provide protection for their journey.

Compared with traditional Si device and IGBT, SiC MOSFET has a higher operating temperature, in order to make it better suited for automotive applications, most manufacturers will embed NTC thermistor for temperature monitoring.
