NTC Temperature Sensor for Car Engine Coolant

The temperature of the car engine coolant is a significant parameter for the engine electronic control module to correct the engine fuel injection amount and ignition timing. Usually, the real time temperature of the car engine coolant is detected by NTC temperature sensor at the engine outlet.

How does the NTC temperature sensor work?

The NTC temperature sensor can detect the temperature and then send this signal to the engine’s electronic control unit (ECU). According to the signal, the injection time, ignition time and idle speed will be adjusted. It can also be used as a control signal for other control systems.

The engine coolant temperature sensor is designed as follows:

The automotive coolant temperature sensor and the plastic injection molding are made into one piece. One side of the molding is fixed with a ring lug terminal, and the other side is built-in with an NTC thermistor. Thermal grease is added between the molding and the NTC thermistor. One end of the plug extends out of the ring lug terminal, and the other end is connected to the thermistor. A thin film layer is also attached near the thermistor to lock the thermal grease. There is also an insulation layer on the molding near the thermistor, and a sealing ring is wrapped outside the insulation layer.

There is also a sealing piece outside the sealing ring. It is a high-precision automotive coolant temperature sensor.
